Keeping Us Safe is a program that keeps elderly drivers safe and provides services to their families and caregivers. It was founded by Matt Gurwell, who after retiring from a very successful 24-year career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, recognized that he was still filled with a desire for improving highway safety and more specifically, a passion to help keep older drivers, safe drivers.

SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of the Elderly)

SHINE is the state health insurance assistance program for elder Floridians. SHINE provides educational materials and free unbiased insurance counseling to Florida elders, caregivers and family members. The goal is to help elders understand and receive the health insurance coverage they need through Medicare, Medicaid, Prescription Assistance, Long-Term Care Planning & Insurance, and other health care issues. Miami-Dade County: Adult Day Care Centers

Website provides names and contact information of Adult Day Care Centers administered by Miami-Dade County. Participants receive nutritious meals and transportation (if the family cannot provide it) to and from the center. Staff includes professional Social Workers, Registered Nurses, and well as rehabilitation specialists (physical, occupational and speech therapists).


Special Transportation Services (STS)

STS is available to people with a physical, mental or intellectual disability who cannot ride public transportation. Residents with temporary disabilities may also be eligible for this service. The Pinecrest Community Center: Senior Focus On Exercise and Other Activities

The Mae Volen Senior Center

The Center has an active senior programs for those boomers and seniors who want to maintain their active lifestyle. RSVP "Your Invitation To Serve"

RSVP offers a variety of volunteer opportunities catered to the skills, wisdom and experience of the volunteers and those in need. ReServe is an innovative nonprofit that matches continuing professionals age 55+ (ReServists) with organizations that need their expertise. ReServists can do great things for their communities while they put their professional expertise to work on part-time service projects, in exchange for a modest hourly stipend. ReServe partners with nonprofit organizations, public institutions and government agencies of all sizes, budgets and missions. ReServists come from all walks of life, and include marketing managers, social workers, artists, administrative assistants, HR professionals, and financial analysts, as well as people who have worked at all levels in health care, banking, advertising, education and government. City Of Miami Gardens: Betty T Ferguson Complex: Active Senior Fitness Classes

New state-of-the-art facility in Miami Gardens. Recipient of grant from the Health Foundation of South Florida for Senior exercise classes. Active Seniors will offer two types of classes: Enhance Fitness and Matter of Balance. Transportation Safety Administration : TSA CARES

Assists travelers with medical conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease, as they prepare for travel prior to getting to the airport. Provides answers to questions about screening policies, procedures, and what to expect at the security checkpoint.


Always At Your Side Adult Day Care

At Always At Your Side Adult Day Care, creates a vibrant and social community loved ones to enjoy their day while receiving the care and support they need and require. This year the Center starts its 'Pay It Forward 2016' initiative by offering a free respite program for caregivers. The 1st Saturday of every month in 2016, Always At Your Side will offer free Adult Day Services to all families in Miami-Dade County. They can assist 40 families whose caregivers need a 'respite' break. The services are aimed at assisting adults who cannot be left alone and who thrive with socialization activities.
