SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of the Elderly)
SHINE is the state health insurance assistance program for elder Floridians. SHINE provides educational materials and free unbiased insurance counseling to Florida elders, caregivers and family members. The goal is to help elders understand and receive the health insurance coverage they need through Medicare, Medicaid, Prescription Assistance, Long-Term Care Planning & Insurance, and other health care issues. Miami-Dade County: Adult Day Care Centers
Website provides names and contact information of Adult Day Care Centers administered by Miami-Dade County. Participants receive nutritious meals and transportation (if the family cannot provide it) to and from the center. Staff includes professional Social Workers, Registered Nurses, and well as rehabilitation specialists (physical, occupational and speech therapists).
Special Transportation Services (STS)
STS is available to people with a physical, mental or intellectual disability who cannot ride public transportation. Residents with temporary disabilities may also be eligible for this service. RSVP offers a variety of volunteer opportunities catered to the skills, wisdom and experience of the volunteers and those in need. City Of Miami Gardens: Betty T Ferguson Complex: Active Senior Fitness Classes
New state-of-the-art facility in Miami Gardens. Recipient of grant from the Health Foundation of South Florida for Senior exercise classes. Active Seniors will offer two types of classes: Enhance Fitness and Matter of Balance.
